Founded in 2020, CPRV is a collaborative design studio run by Camille Paillard and Romain Voulet, based between London, UK, and Marseille, France. Working across furniture, lighting, products, and interiors, the studio explores how design interacts with everyday life, focusing on simplicity, materiality, and long-lasting function. For HAY, CPRV has designed the Aplat Table Lamp.
Aplat Table Lamp by CPRV
In their first design for HAY, CPRV have created the Aplat Table Lamp, a lightweight, sculptural lamp crafted from folded paper. Founded in 2020 and based between London and Marseille, CPRV is a collaborative design studio run by Camille Paillard and Romain Voulet. The Aplat Table Lamp emerged from their playful experiments with paper. ‘We wanted to shape the object with only a few folds,’ say the designers. ‘A bit like a piece of clothing that starts with a flat piece of fabric but forms a volume once assembled or worn.’
The diffused paper surface emits an ambient glow reminiscent of candlelight, adding warmth to its surroundings. ‘One of the best atmospheres is often created by simply putting a piece of paper in front of a light source,’ says CPRV. Folds and creases are carefully dosed to give the lamp its structure and shape, and its minimal construction, paired with a discreet metal hook and rhombus-shaped base, makes it lightweight and easy to move to wherever light is needed.
Thanks to its folded design from lightweight sheets, the Aplat Table Lamp is flat-packed and assembled by the user. ‘They can feel the product while assembling it, revealing the craft and process behind it,’ says CPRV. Its name, taken from the French word for ‘flat’, reflects the transformation of a twodimensional object with precise angles that shape it into a simple, graphic form.
Available in two sizes, the Aplat Table Lamp uses a replaceable standard LED bulb, with an inline on-off rocker switch, and can be placed on tables, shelves, and windowsills. The large size also works as a floor-standing lamp in any room. Above all, it’s a design that reflects the young studio’s sensitivity to materiality, simplicity and usefulness.
