Wulff & Konstali, Bellevue Beach (Denmark)

When Dutch and Danish design histories converge.

Along the northern shores of Copenhagen lies Bellevue Beach, known for its distinctive buildings – from a theatre to changing rooms – drawn up by the late Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in the 1930s. Today, café and eatery Wulff & Konstali occupy one of these historic seaside locations, where Crate Collection, designed by Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld during the same era, complements Arne Jacobsen’s minimalist facades. Despite originating nearly a century ago, the harmonious integration of Rietveld's and Jacobsen's designs underscores their enduring relevance in contemporary living.

Fallback Image Description

Originally crafted by Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld in 1934 to repurpose surplus wooden shipping crates, the Crate Collection has been relaunched in a Rietveld Originals x HAY collaboration. Rietveld’s vision of creating modern, functional, and affordable furniture for everyone resonates with HAY’s core values.
