Gammel Holtegaard, Holte (Denmark)

North of Copenhagen, the newly renovated Gl. Holtegaard is a centre for contemporary and modern art, set within the Baroque country house architect Lauritz de Thurah built for himself in 1757. Across its formal garden, now a sculpture park, two contemporary classics by French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec – the Palissade Lounge Chair Low and Palissade Ottoman – contrast their elegant linear composition with the ornate surroundings. Guided by symmetrical geometry, the powder-coated steel pieces withstand rain and can remain outdoors all year round, as much at home in museum gardens as on café terraces.
